The Black Boy Writes/Black Girl Writes Mentorship Initiative focuses on supplying industry access and resources to preWGA Black screenwriters.

Features of the mentorship initiative include monthly Writer Roundtables with established writers/industry leaders, writing workshops, and notes sessions to prepare mentees for Fellowships, Generals, and Staffing. In addition, they will participate in general meetings with Networks and Production Companies.

Application Deadline: Applications for the 2025 Cohort close on August 15th, 2024.

  • To enter the competition, you must complete ALL of the following:

    1. Upload either a 1-Hour or Half-Hour Pilot (of any genre). Only one (1) entry will be accepted per applicant.

    2. Submit a Biography and answer the required Essay Question. All applicants must submit a Biography and answer the Essay Question in order to be considered.

    Essay Question: What do you think is currently missing from the television zeitgeist and how do you feel that your perspective as a writer could fill that space?

    (Please limit your response to 500 words or less in order to be considered.)

Mentees will workshop their scripts every month, performing as a writer’s room, to prepare them for meetings, fellowships, and staffing. In addition, writing workshops will help prepare mentees for fellowship and staffing season and allow them to participate in general meetings with networks and production companies.

Mentees will meet with established writers for an intimate conversation about the business of writing, these round tables are intended to provide mentees with exclusive access to working professionals and their industry insights.

The writer roundtables are sponsored by Final Draft.

Mentees will have the opportunity to meet with and be read by Culture Creative Entertainment and M88 to be considered for representation.

In addition, Mentees may have the opportunity to participate in general meetings with networks and production companies.

Mentees receive access to mentorship from established writers, and industry networking events, and will participate in an end-of-year writers' retreat at the end of the 12-month program.

Additionally, they have the unique opportunity to connect and advance with their cohorts worldwide, fostering meaningful relationships and growth in their screenwriting careers.
